Karimpuzhakum is located in the eastern part of Malappuram district, below the Western Ghats. Karulai is a village located between the Valiya Thod and the New Amarambalam Gram Panchayat. Karulai is located on the border of the New Amarambalam designated forest. Therefore, the life of the people of Karulai (area) is intertwined with the forest. The fertile soil accumulated over centuries on the banks of the Karimpuzha. Cherupuzha and Valiya Thod is a dream land for the farmer. The people here were illiterate and unscrupulous people who struggled with this soil and supported their families. The people here came from many places. In the 1950s, the arrival of immigrants from the southern districts made Karulai a new cultural land. Rubber, kappa and pepper flourished on the hillsides where wild animals roamed.
